Sean Willems Jerry Shapiro of Optiant will join their customer, William Tarlton, Supply Chain R&D Manager, Personal Beauty Care, Proctor & Gamble (P&G), in presenting “Inventory Optimization at P&G: Achieving the Real Benefits through User Adoption” at the 8th Annual Informs Conference, being held April 13-15, 2008, in Baltimore, MD.  Mr. Tarlton will discuss the implementation of Optiant's multi-echelon inventory optimization solution that has enabled P&G to maintain service levels at nearly 100% while continuing to significantly reduce inventory. Attendees will learn how P&G aligned work processes to key users' requirements and how they attained user adoption to ensure that benefits of the technology are realized.
From D&N’s perspective, the substantial benefits that P&G has achieved, reducing inventories by a substantial amount while actually improving service levels, is all the more remarkable given how well P&G’s planning and operations processes were run prior to the project with Optiant.  The source of the incremental improvement may well lie in the difference between improving the organization’s ability to meet a target most efficiently (which P&G had largely mastered) and realizing that there is additional benefit to setting targets at a more granular level, with a much better informed perspective on what the value and cost of each position is likely to be, given the uncertainties of supply and demand.
